Poetry readings by Graham Burchell and Abigail Ardelle Zammit

Celebrating 10 years of Creative Writing (Department of English, University of Malta)

The Department of English at The University of Malta is hosting a poetry reading event on the evening of the 6th. UK-based poet Graham Burchell and Maltese poet Abigail Ardelle Zammit will read a selection of poems which take their inspiration from works of art. Students and non-students alike are invited to experience the transformative power of painting, sculpture and music as expressed through poetic form. The concept of Ekphrastic Poetry will be introduced briefly by the two poets; after the poetry reading, there will be ample time for questions from the audience. Do come along and bring your friends in order to celebrate ten years of Creative Writing at the University of Malta.

September 14th 6.00pm MACA
Plaza Santa Maria 3
Alicante, Spain

Four poets from England, Malta, Spain and North America have been visiting the Museo over the last five years; they have been inspired by the many exceptional works of art found in this stunning gallery. They have reacted to work from the Eusebio Sempere foundation collection as well as other works in the permanent and temporary exhibitions. They will read examples of their work after a brief introduction from their mentor and poet colleague, Tamar Yoseloff, who will talk about the particular qualities of Ekphrastic poetry, i.e. poetry inspired by other art forms – the insights, problems and adventures of the imagination this brings about.
